What is An Ecosystem?
An ecosystem is a community of living things and non living things interacting together. An ecosystem can be large or small on land or under water. Ecosystems everywhere need energy and that energy comes from sunlight. Plants convert sunlight into energy and that energy is consumed by animals moving through the food web until it (energy) is ultimately decomposed and returned to the soil.
Habitats in the ecosystem provide animals with the shelter, food, water and other things they need for life. Habitats are where animals live. Niche is a animals role in the ecosystem, how it eats, what it eats and how it lives. Animals can not occupy the same niche for very long as the competition for food and other resources will force other groups to move and they may go extinct.
Ecosystems are threatened by climate change, destruction of habitats and pollution, however scientist call ecologist are studying, working to find ways to protect ecosystems.
